Don McLean — Vincent (“Starry, Starry Night”): Classical Guitar Sheet Music and Tab (Free PDF)

Don McLean wrote “Vincent” as a tribute to Vincent van Gogh, inspired by the painting The Starry Night. The song came out in 1971 and became a classic. I discovered this solo guitar version by listening to the great Chet Atkins: the arrangement is his, and here are the sheet music and tab so you can play it too.

Above you’ll find the free PDF with standard notation and tablature. If you’d prefer the Guitar Pro version, write to me and I’ll send it to you.

Listen and watch

If you don’t know the original song yet, listen to it first: the lyrics are one of the most beautiful tributes ever paid to an artist.

Practice tip

The secret of this piece is the steady fingerpicking. First practice the right hand alone over the chords, until the pattern flows without thinking. Then add the melody and let it ring a little louder than the accompaniment.
