The Badinerie is the final movement of Johann Sebastian Bach’s Orchestral Suite No. 2 in B minor, BWV 1067. It was written for flute and strings, probably in Leipzig, and it’s a short, fast piece full of energy, showing the influence of the Italian composers Bach admired, such as Vivaldi.

In the original, the Badinerie is played at a blistering tempo. In this guitar adaptation I slowed it down a little: it makes an excellent study in articulation and left-hand technique, without losing the character of the piece. Above you’ll find the sheet music, the tab and the audio to play along with.

Practice tip
Work on the piece in short phrases and with a metronome, well below the final tempo. When each phrase comes out clean three times in a row, raise the metronome by 4 or 5 BPM. Here, the clarity of each note matters more than speed.
