“Cordas em Movimento” (“Strings in Motion”) is my classical guitar CD, an independent release from 2017. It brings together essential works from the guitar repertoire — by Francisco Tárrega, Agustín Barrios Mangoré, Isaac Albéniz and Frédéric Chopin, through to Carlos Paredes — and a few arrangements of my own, such as Deolinda’s “Clandestino”.
It’s a simple, honest record, with nothing but the sound of nylon strings. It holds my interpretations and what I feel in every note, and I hope it gives whoever listens a sense of peace and calm. More than 1,000 copies have been sold so far.

The launch recital
The CD was launched on 29 July 2017 with a recital at Galeria Atelier Arte Pólvora D’Cruz, in Setúbal, Portugal — a landmark 1920s building in the city’s historic centre.
It was a very special night, with an attentive, generous audience who took home around 50 CDs. My friend Luís Tavares hosted the recital and livened up the room with stories and popular songs that marked generations. And the painter Lurdes Pólvora D’Cruz painted live, to the sound of the guitar, a canvas where a tree grew on a plain lit in soft tones — a moment when the arts came together and that, for me, was truly unique.
Then it was my turn. There were nerves and a few slips, of course. But when you’ve given many years to something you love, the notes come almost by themselves — not always perfect — and you see them reflected in people’s faces. That’s the magic of music: awakening something in ourselves and in others. As a musician, that’s my goal: to play from the heart, not just from the head.
Thank you to everyone who was there!
